Dr. Juan DiazBA, MA, PhD
Dr. Diaz wrote his PhD in International Relations at the University of Kent at Canterbury, England, on the topic of international negotiation and he has been a professional International Mediator ever since. Dr. Diaz’ experience in international negotiation and mediation includes the Western Balkan region, gained during the crisis there in the 1990s and included working with local officials to accept repatriated refugees that were driven out by conflict. Over the course of his career, he has mediated in over 60 communities and conducted interest-based negotiation workshops with over 150 political leaders, over 200 NGO representatives, members of international organizations and national agencies. For numerous years, he was Director and Chairman of the Board of the CSSProject for Integrative Mediation, an NGO he co-founded. Dr. Diaz holds several university appointments at the Masters level including the Willy Brandt School of Public Policy (Erfurt, Germany), the Hertie School of Governance (Berlin, Germany), and the Brussels School of International Studies (Brussels, Belgium). He is regularly hired as a consultant in projects ranging from setting up mediation mechanisms, negotiating land conflicts, business and intercultural negotiations, economic development, and leadership. Dr. Diaz focuses is research and practice interests on the intersection between international peace, security, and economic development. In this regard he has a keen interest in land security and how the built environment can play and role in sustainable development.
